Tutoring Volunteers

LVM offers volunteers who wish to become tutors, a combined training program that enables them to tutor both Basic Literacy (BL) students, who need help in learning to read and write, and English as a Second Language (ESL) students, foreign-born adults who want to improve their ability to understand and speak the English language.

LVM provides a comprehensive participatory training totaling 25 hours of instruction. Classes are offered in the libraries of Middlesex county in the daytime, evening or on Saturdays.

Tutoring is conducted entirely in English so that students can acquire the conversational skills needed to take part in everyday life, to find employment, and to obtain citizenship.

Want to become a Literacy Volunteer Tutor? The first step is to complete the Tutor Application on-line form.

Typical Questions and Answers about becoming a tutor and tutoring are in the F.A.Qs section.
